WINEMAKING: Crafted from three parcels of premium Yarra Valley fruit with an average vine age of 25 years. Hand-picked in early March, the fruit was whole-bunch pressed, lightly settled, then fermented in a mixture of new (18%) and older French oak barriques and puncheons. This wine was matured for nine months with minimal bâtonnage before bottling.
TASTING NOTE: Lemon yellow in colour, this wine delivers aromas of nectarine, struck match and grapefruit with subtle hints of spicy oak. The palate delivers fine quartz-like texture with an array of juicy citrus, stonefruits and elderflower. The finish is long, full and satisfying with delicate, yet invigorating acidity.

2018 Fetherston 'Iris' Chardonnay
'Struck match, yellow peach, lime zest and sweet citrus, plus a cashew richness to ground it. It’s zesty and has tang, but also slip and gloss, juicy almost fresh pineapple flavour, a little spice and chalky feel, and a rich but tight finish of good length. A bit of talc and zip in the aftertaste. This is right in the slot for drinking now.'

'Grape sources the same as with the Yarra Valley chardonnay, although Coldstream at 57% is more prominent. Winemaking appears to be identical. Opens with some struck match character on the bouquet, nectarine and nougat/nutty oak coming through as well. It feels generous and open on the palate initially, but the acidity pulls it taut and long. Very good value.'
