2018 Fetherston Magnolia Garganega Gewürztraminer

AU$24.00Price
  • Region: King Valley

    Sub-region: Cheshunt

    Vineyard: Eurangie Park

    Altitude: 400m

    Varieties: Garganega (67%), Gewürztraminer (33%)

    Alc. (v/v) 12.5, TA 5.74 g/L, pH 3.28

    Winemaking:

Gewürztraminer – machine-picked on the 27th of February 2018, pressed straight to older French oak barriques. Primary ferment was spontaneous (indigenous yeast) with regular bâtonnage during fermentation, then minimal bâtonnage for the duration of maturation (five months).

Garganega – machine-picked (75%) and hand-picked (25%) on the 17th of March 2018. The machine-picked fruit was destemmed (to ensure minimal residual MOG) and transferred to tank. After six days on skins, spontaneous fermentation commenced, at which time the must was pressed directly to older French barriques.  Regular bâtonnage was performed during fermentation, with malo-lactic fermentation encouraged in a few selected barrels. The hand-picked fruit had three weeks carbonic maceration, then pressed to older French barriques where it completed spontaneous primary fermentation (malo-lactic fermentation blocked). There was regular bâtonnage during fermentation, then minimal bâtonnage for the duration of maturation (five months).

  • 'A charismatic white wine from the King Valley that brings together aromas of quince, lemon balm and fresh lime with a palate that shows light puffs of talc-like mineral charm among refreshing fruitiness and a cool, gently savoury and dry finish. Plenty going on here - some exotic and appealing character in tow.'

'Plenty of colour and indeed flavour. Texture too for that matter. Nuts, stonefruit, heaps of florals and spice. You never walk away from a party asking whether ‘Traminer was there. Lychee and roses, here in abundance..'
