VINEYARD: Tibooburra, Yellingbo (Upper Yarra Valley) Victoria

WINEMAKING: Single vineyard red field blend of Pinot Noir (84%) and Syrah (16%).

Pinot Noir – hand-picked in early March. 100% whole bunch wild yeast fermentation which underwent three weeks carbonic maceration.

Syrah – hand-picked in late March. 100% whole berry wild yeast fermentation.
All components received 8 months élevage in French oak barriques prior to bending.

TASTING NOTE: Garnet in colour, this charismatic wine displays aromas of fennel seed, wild raspberry and red cherry. The palate is light, spicy and structural, woven with juicy berries, mocha and liquorice. A web of fine tannins carry through the savoury finish.

2018 Fetherston 'Sakura' Pinot Noir Syrah

  • 'It’s spicy and wheaty, almost a mescal edge to it, but also has purity of red fruit, clarity, and particularly good mouth-feel with stem, grip and grain to the tannin. Bright, fresh, frisky, juicy strawberry, a long lightly chalky finish to top it off. They are making very stylish wines at Fetherston. If you like ‘em bunchy, slightly bitter, and light, then this will hit the spot.’

'84% pinot noir, 16% shiraz from the Tibooburra Vineyard at Yellingbo. Wild ferment, all whole bunch for the pinot, whole berries for the syrah, 8 months in neutral French oak. Distinctly stemmy and bunchy on the bouquet and palate as you might expect, cherry and cranberry delivering the fruit-driven element. It's soft yet tangy and easy to drink, but it keeps you thinking.'
